Megismerhetjük Kukoricza Jancsit, a János Vitézzé váló fiatal juhász, és a gonosz mostoha által nevelet Iluskát, a magyar huszárokat, a török pasát, az öreg francia királyt és szép francia királylánt, találkozhatunk órásokkal, boszorkányokkal, tündérekkel... Kukoricza Jancsi, mesénk főhöse, világkörüli földi és földön túli útján, minden akadályt leküzdve, végül megtalálja elvesztett és szeretett Iluskáját.
