Az Istenek alkonya egy kortárs balett, amely Hans Zimmer azonos című albumának hangulatvilágára épül. A darab nem követ lineáris cselekményt, inkább érzelmeken és atmoszférán keresztül bontakozik ki, a zenét mozdulatokká formálva, a germán mitológiából ismert alakokat idézve. Talán mindannyiunk számára ismert fogalom a Valhalla, a halottak csarnoka, Odin pazar fényű vára, amelyben az isten maga köré gyűjti az emberek közül a legjelesebbeket, az ő kedveltjeit, akik a harcmezőn életüket neki áldozva estek el. Ezek a hősök harcias életet folytatnak. Küzdelmeik ott vannak minden valaha megírt történetben, meséjük mindenkié.

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
