"Schneider Mátyás, a hirtelen meggazdagodott fuvaros történetét meséli el, aki felesége unszolására előkelő úri életet szeretne élni. Ennek érdekében felfogadják Hyppolitot, a rideg és kimért lakájt, aki vasfegyelemmel próbálja átalakítani a család mindennapjait. A túlzott illemtan, a félreértések és a szerelmi bonyodalmak sorozata mulatságos helyzeteket teremt. A darab könnyed humorral, fülbemászó zenékkel és örökérvényű poénokkal mutatja meg, mi történik, ha valaki mindenáron többnek akar látszani annál, aki valójában."
