Hazatérés - Misztériumjáték Esterházy János gróf életéről

Count, politician, father and martyr – János Esterházy is one of the few 20th century statesmen who set an example for us, despite his tragic life. The play presents the trajectory to mark the Memorial Year commemorating the 120th anniversary of the birth of ‘God’s Servant János Esterházy’. Esterházy was the most consistent advocate for the Hungarian cause in the post-Trianon Uplands (presentday Southern Slovakia). In 1942, he was the only member of the Slovak Parliament to say no to the law on the deportation of Jews. First he was persecuted by the Gestapo, later also persecuted and arrested by the occupying Soviets, and sent to the gulags for two years of forced labour. Upon his return, he was first sentenced to death for no stated reason by communist Czechoslovakia, then ‘as a clemency gesture’, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. He died in prison.

Our offer

Set in the Roman Empire around 74 BC, Spartacus was László Seregi's first true full-length ballet, which at one stroke became a milestone in Hungarian dance life. Since 1968, one generation after another has enjoyed the historically themed choreography, which treats the story of the ancient slave revolt in such a way that its true message is not the rebellion itself, but rather human emotions and choices under pressure.

“I've captured a terrific storm of elements and of hearts which gradually calms to Brünnhilde's magic sleep,” Wagner on the score of Die Walküre, in a letter to Ferenc Liszt. Following on the heels of the introductory Das Rheingold, this opera about the tragic love between two of Wotan's children constitutes the start of the more tightly drawn dramatic trilogy. Once again, the laws of the gods clash: can paternal love save a lad who has violated the sanctity of marriage?
