The OPERA Children’s Chorus has stepped up to a new level in recent years: it has staged numerous successful independent productions – The Valiant Johnny, The Stubborn Princess, Stephen, the King (Junior), The Little Sweep, Hungarian Christmas – both at the Opera House and at the Eiffel Art Studios. As the introduction to the programme series titled Háry100, a new production is added to company’s ever-expanding youth repertoire. In their performance, Zoltán Kodály’s singspiel gains a fresh, childlike innocence, yet is executed in a professional manner, lending a dynamic flavour to the adventures of the boastful old soldier. János Garay’s original Háry tale, with its wonderous elements and characters, is particularly well suited to creating a lovable production for a young audience, in the form of the hundred-strong choir’s brand-new production tailor-made for young artists and audiences. It is born of the collaboration between János Lackfi, the poet endowed with an inexhaustible vocabulary responsible for the reworking of The Magic Flute for Children and director Mária Harangi, the OPERA’s lead head artistic assistant, under the musical direction of Nikolett Hajzer, conductor of the Children’s Chorus and the successful musical director of the productions listed above.
