1951. szeptember 27-én a meglehetősen higgadt és visszafogott angol közvéleményt különösebben nem kavarta fel a régóta betegeskedő VI. György király súlyos tüdőműtétjéről szóló bejelentés, de a hajdani tenisz sztár, Tony Wendice lakásán elkövetett rejtélyes gyilkosságról szállongó hírek kifejezetten lázba hozták. A BBC a következő hónapokban ugyan rendszeresen beszámolt a gyengélkedő király egészségi állapotáról, a szenzációs nyomozás és a londoni Központi Büntetőbíróságon zajló per váratlan fordulatairól azonban naponta tudósított. Aztán 1952. február 6-án a király elhunyt, és ugyanazon a napon az Old Bailey a gyilkosra a lehető legsúlyosabb büntetést szabta ki. Ám mikor II. Erzsébet királynőt megkoronázták, a halálraítélt hajóra szállt, hogy nászútra induljon szerelmével...

And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
For the 14th time, the performance of the famous Symphony No. 9 will dominate the OPERA’s New Year celebrations. In 2027, the programme will be completed by two further classical works: Beethoven’s overture, also enhanced by Mahler, and a cello concerto by Haydn, the latter of course featuring an OPERA soloist.
While the Fountain of Tears bubbles before him, Giray, khan of the Tatars, is lost in brooding. Just as the flow from the marble fount cannot be exhausted, his own sorrow will never diminish, either. The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
