Az 1974-ben komponált versenymű rendkívüli kihívást támaszt előadója felé: a négy tétel során a szólistának a „rendes” fuvola mellett pikolón, altfuvolán és basszusfuvolán is játszania kell. A nem mindennapi hangszeres felkészültséget igénylő magánszólamot ezúttal a modern fuvolairodalom egyik világszerte elismert nagyszerű interpretátora, Ittzés Gergely szólaltatja meg. A koncert második felében Dohnányi szellemes miniatűrök sorozatát kínáló Szimfonikus percei, majd Kodály Zoltán az emblematikus magyar népdalra készült, 1939-ben bemutatott nagyzenekari variációi csendülnek fel. Az est karmestere Bogányi Tibor lesz.
