vígjáték
A Figaro házassága: egyrészt remek kor- és jellemrajz, de bravúros cselvígjáték is. Kiáltvány a francia forradalom előtt, miközben a szerelem forradalmát hirdeti. Egy fiatal epekedő szerelmét az úrnője iránt, a megunt úrnő szerelmét a férje iránt, a férj vágyakozását minden fellebbenő szoknya után, gyarló és igaz, esendő és virgonc párokat.
Beaumarchais a polgári forradalom harcosa volt, aki Voltaire és Diderot tanítványaként a maró szatíra fegyverével küzdött a feudális kiváltságok ellen, és minden olyan hatalom ellen, amelyek a polgárvilág fejlődését akadályozták. Napóleon szerint: Figaró már maga volt az akcióban lévő forradalom.
