Ferenczi György a magyar könnyűzene egyik legszínesebb egyénisége, akinek negyedszázados pályafutására éppúgy hatott a country, a blues, a funky, a hip-hop és a rock ’n’ roll, mint a magyar népzene. A legújabban pedig - hat évvel Petőfi című albuma megjelenése után - egy 20. századi forradalmi költő verseit zenésítette meg a Rackajammel. Az 1929-ben született Gérecz Attilát 1950-ben államellenes összeesküvés vádjával tizenöt év fegyházra ítélték. Költészete a váci börtönben bontakozott ki, ahol maguk közé fogadták és írásra bíztatták a börtönkápolna tisztásán össze-összeülő „füveskerti” írók és költők. Az 1956-os forradalom sodrában Gérecz kiszabadult, és részt vett az utcai harcokban, míg november 7-én életét nem vesztette. „Sorsával és művészetével még Petőfinél is nagyobb hatást gyakorol ránk” - vallotta Ferenczi, aki a Hangzó Helikon-sorozatban megjelent Gérecz Attila című albumán alighanem élete legkeményebb és legsúlyosabb bluesát követte el.

Set to a libretto by Barnabás Szöllősi that is based on Andor Szilágyi's fable for the theatre and written at the OPERA's request in the 2014/15 season, Erkel Prize-winning composer Zsófia Tallér's masterful, expressive and entertaining music makes this Hungarian fairy tale opera an enjoyable experience for children and adults alike, and, we hope, a possible future classic.
A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. Set in the Roman Empire around 74 BC, Spartacus was László Seregi's first true full-length ballet, which at one stroke became a milestone in Hungarian dance life. Since 1968, one generation after another has enjoyed the historically themed choreography, which treats the story of the ancient slave revolt in such a way that its true message is not the rebellion itself, but rather human emotions and choices under pressure.
