Az iraki származású színész-írónő katolikus családban nőtt fel az Egyesült Államokban, és először kislányként, majd 1993-ban járt Irakban. Ez a későbbi látogatás olyan mély benyomást gyakorolt rá, hogy a következő tíz évben interjúkat készített, dokumentumokat gyűjtött, hogy 2003-ra megírja leghíresebb darabját, Fátyol nélkült.
A drámában kilenc iraki nő sorsán keresztül fájdalmas hitelességgel, megdöbbentő személyességgel elevenednek meg a háború borzalmai és a férfiak kegyetlenkedései. De ezek a kiszolgáltatott, elnyomott nők a világ bármely pontján élhetnének, akár közöttünk is.
A Vígszínház mindig érzékenyen reagál a társadalmi folyamatokra, különös tekintettel a nők helyzetére. A Mikvéhez hasonlóan Heather Raffo műve is megértéssel, nyitottsággal és embeséggel ábrázolja a női sors sokrétűségét.
