A Liszt-díjas Farkas Gábor a romantikus repertoár világszerte elismert előadója, több nemzetközi zongoraverseny győztese, Ázsia, az Egyesült Államok és Európa legjelentősebb zenei fesztiváljainak és koncerttermeinek állandó meghívottja. Több szólólemeze látott napvilágot a Warner Music Hungary, a Hungaroton, a Toccata Classics London, valamint a Steinway & Sons Records gondozásában.
2017 óta a „Steinway Artist” cím birtokosa, valamint a Tokyo College of Music professzora. Két éve újra szoros szálak fűzik egykori alma materéhez: a budapesti Liszt Zeneakadémia Billentyűs és Akkordikus Hangszerek Tanszékének, és annak Doktori Iskolájának vezetője.
2022. óta az általa életre hívott Távol- Keleti Komolyzenei Fesztivál művészeti vezetője.
