Az Erdőfű egy olyan baráti társaság, ami a mai magyar népzenei színtér meghatározó alakjainak és zenekarainak olvasztótégelye. Nevüket a Juhait elvesztő és azokat az "erdőfűben" kereső pásztor zenés-táncos-elbeszélő történetéből kölcsönözték. A zenekar a Kárpát-medencei falvakban élő magyarság és a velük szorosan együtt élő szomszédos népek vonós zenei hagyományát hivatott elsajátítani. A formáció feladatának tekinti ezen gazdag és színes zenei kultúra átmentését a földművelő-gazdálkodó társadalmi berendezkedés felbomlása után is a modern városi környezetbe.
