Palóc népmese Jankó királyfiról és Tündérszép Ilonáról és arról, hogy mennyi bölcs döntést kell hozni ahhoz, hogy az emberfia belekóstolhasson az élet vizébe.
„Az élet és a halál vize” c. mesét a gömöri Hangonyban mondta el Szilágyi Gusztáv. Az előadásban ötvöződik a bábjátékos-népdalénekes-mesemondó szerep. A kovácsoltvas díszlet, kendők, kesztyűbábok, maszkok segítségével az ősi magyar mitológiai világképben rajzolódnak ki a mese körvonalai. A tájegységhez tartozó nyelvjárás, népdalok és mondókák a mai paraszti gondolkodásmódot tükrözik, de magukban rejtik az ősi bájolás és rejtőzés elemeit is.
Écsi Gyöngyi 2000-ben a Vaskakas Nemzetközi Bábfesztiválon a legjobb női előadó dját kapta, 2003-ban a budapesti Kolibri fesztiválon az elsőként kiosztott Indali-díjjal, 2007-ben Pozsonyban a Mikola-díjjal jutalmazták.
