„Engem kemény fából faragtak!
Tudok magamon uralkodni.
Nem látszott rajtam semmi, pedig hosszú évek szorgalmas munkája, tehetségem elismerése, egész jövőm forgott kockán.
- Állatművész vagyok - mondtam.
- Mit tud? - kérdezte az igazgató.
- Madárhangokat utánzok.
- Sajnos - legyintett -, ez kiment a divatból.
- Hogyhogy? A gerle búgása? A nádiveréb cserregése? A fürj pitypalattyolása? A sirály vijjogása? A pacsirta éneke?
- Passzé - mondta unottan az igazgató.
Ez fájt. De azt hiszem, nem látszott rajtam semmi.
- A viszontlátásra - mondtam udvariasan, és kirepültem a nyitott ablakon.”
