A hangverseny első felében Beethoven hatalmas léptékű Esz-dúr zongoraversenye csendül fel, az öt zongorakoncert grandiózus sorozatának 1811-ben bemutatott utolsó darabja, amely fenséges melléknevét a dedikáció címzettjéről, a mesterrel jó kapcsolatban álló Rudolf főhercegről kapta. Az előadóval szemben kivételes zenei és technikai nehézségeket támasztó szólószólamot a magyar zongoraiskola jelenkorának egyik legtehetségesebb fiatal művésze, Palojtay János szólaltatja meg.
A szünet után Richard Strauss 1898-ben komponált monumentális szimfonikus költeménye, a Hősi élet hangzik el, amely hat egymással szorosan összefüggő tételében egy elképzelt hős életútját mutatja be. A hatalmas méretű zenekarra számító kompozíció meghallgatása egészen kivételes zenei élményt ígér.
Az est dirigense Rajna Martin vezető karmester lesz.
