Visszatértek a búvármadarak az Aranytóra, és velük megérkezik Norman Thayer nyugalmazott egyetemi tanár és felesége, Ethel is, akik fiatal koruk óta minden nyarat itt töltöttek. Morognak, ugratják, de pont ugyanúgy szeretik egymást, mint a kezdet kezdetén - vagyis kezdődik a szokott, boldog nyaralás. Az idei mégis más, mint az eddigiek: régi, hűséges bútorok és használati tárgyak mellett sok mást is rendbe kell tenniük maguk körül. Mert a lányuk nem véletlenül nem járt náluk már évek óta.
