Negyven az új húsz? Vagy harminc az új hatvan? Kicsúszunk az időből, haver. Forradalmi nézeteink, világmegváltó terveink révbe érnek, vagy csak egymást nyúzva vekengünk a négy fal között s közben homályba veszve eltűnünk a horizonton nyomtalanul, mintha ott se lettünk volna soha? Ja, igen, öcsém, ez egy kispályás világ - fogjuk csak rá- és mi a kispadon ülünk, annak is a legszélén, és nem csinálunk semmit! Semmit!

For the 14th time, the performance of the famous Symphony No. 9 will dominate the OPERA’s New Year celebrations. In 2027, the programme will be completed by two further classical works: Beethoven’s overture, also enhanced by Mahler, and a cello concerto by Haydn, the latter of course featuring an OPERA soloist.
A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
