„Így torzulunk el, s válunk nyomorékká, lelkünkben mind, kik urak nem vagyunk.” Ezek Dózsa szavai, aki egész éltében származásával küzdött. Személyében az egyszerű ember próbál felülemelkedni a hazugságon, színlelésen, hogy megfordíthassa a magyarság sorsát.
Mihályi Győző szuggesztív erővel, rendkívüli színészi játékkal formálja meg a parasztvezér alakját, akire nagyobb teher nehezedik, mint amit ember elbír. Székely János zenei pontossággal hangszereli a „Dózsa szimfóniát” a lázadástól a beletörődésig.
