Déry Tibort – aki egyébként, mint író Nobel díjra is föl volt terjesztve 1957-ben – a forradalom leverése után letartóztatták. Október 23 –án részt vett az Írószövetség kiáltványának elkészítésében, és az elnökség Déryt bízta meg, hogy a Petőfi téren és a Bem téren felolvassa. Nagy Imre hívének vallotta magát. Kádár ragaszkodott Déry kiemelt felelősségre vonásához. Révay szerint már 1956 –ban ki kellett volna végezni, végül Marosán Györgynek köszönhetően hosszú börtönbüntetésre itélték. Börtönben írt leveleiből és műveiből, és nála csaknem 30 évvel fiatalabb feleségének a leveleiből készült az előadás.
