Michael and Peter are going to fight in a war. Their helicopter is shot down and they are believed to be dead. When Michael finally returns home, he finds that nothing is the same any more. Terrible secrets are revealed, causing serious tension. However, the real drama lies in Michael's confession. He finds himself in a deep moral conundrum related to the limits of self-preservation. Is it a sin to kill out of self-defense? The internationally acclaimed opera director, Kasper Holten is the father of the so-called "Northern-style" opera. This performance is a must for any opera enthusiast who is longing for something special.

Our offer

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.

“I've captured a terrific storm of elements and of hearts which gradually calms to Brünnhilde's magic sleep,” Wagner on the score of Die Walküre, in a letter to Ferenc Liszt. Following on the heels of the introductory Das Rheingold, this opera about the tragic love between two of Wotan's children constitutes the start of the more tightly drawn dramatic trilogy. Once again, the laws of the gods clash: can paternal love save a lad who has violated the sanctity of marriage?

A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. To request a tour in other languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, Greece and Hungarian), please get in touch with the OperaTour team. Please note that the auditorium is closed for visits during rehearsals. Guided tours are not available during performances.
