novellaadaptáció
Ragin és Gromov, orvos és páciens egy tespedt orosz kisváros siralmas és lepusztult elmegyógyintézetének 6-os számú kórtermében kezdenek el beszélgetni. Az életet és annak embertelenségét sztoikus belenyugvással szemlélő orvos a nemesi származású, művelt, de a körülményektől üldözési mániában szenvedő Gromovval folytatott filozofikus beszélgetésektől felüdül, majd rendszeres beszélgetőtársává válik ápoltjának. Kirajzolódni látszik, hogy a gondolkodó vagy másként gondolkodó ember objektív mérlegelés nélkül bezárható. Míg a segédorvos Ragin helyére pályázik, őt magát mindenki őrültnek kezdi tekinteni…
