A helyszín London egyik elegáns kórháza, ahol a világ minden tájáról odasereglett neurológusok konferencián vesznek részt. A nyitó előadást Dr. Mortimore tartja, akihez váratlanul betoppan tizennyolc évvel ezelőtti szeretője Tate nővér, ráadásul ennek a titkos viszonynak a “gyümölcse”, Leslie is. A főorvos szorult helyzetbe kerül, s nem lévén más választása kollégáját, a kissé kétbalkezes Dr. Bonneyt kéri meg arra, hogy ideiglenesen vállalja az apaságot… Innentől kezdve aztán az események szédítő tempóban követik egymást.
