Bemutató: 2017. április 28.

A Faust doktor, a lelkét az örök ifjúságért cserébe az ördögnek eladó tudós alakja fél évezrede témája a művészeteknek. Az 1480-ban született német alkimista, Johann Georg Faust fantasztikus története a XVI. sz. elején vásári komédiákban jelent meg, majd 1587-től egy német népkönyvben is terjedt, Christopher Marlowe drámájával irodalmi szintre emelkedett és azóta számos feldolgozást nyert. Goethe 1769-ben egy vígjátékában írta le először a Faust nevet, majd a téma hat évtizeden át foglalkoztatta.

A komponisták többségét a Goethe-tragédia első részének 1808-as megjelenését követően már a német költőfejedelem inspirálta. Zenei hatása a romantika nagy alkotásain – Schubert, Berlioz, Liszt, Wagner, Mahler, Boito művein – túl egy 1997-es rock-operáig, sőt a mai napig tart. Valamennyi Faust-zenemű közül Gounod operája a legnépszerűbb. Sikerének forrása érzelemgazdagsága, a monumentalitást és a bensőségességet váltogató cselekményszövése és slágerszámba menő áriák egész sora.

Our offer

“I've captured a terrific storm of elements and of hearts which gradually calms to Brünnhilde's magic sleep,” Wagner on the score of Die Walküre, in a letter to Ferenc Liszt. Following on the heels of the introductory Das Rheingold, this opera about the tragic love between two of Wotan's children constitutes the start of the more tightly drawn dramatic trilogy. Once again, the laws of the gods clash: can paternal love save a lad who has violated the sanctity of marriage?

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
