Több mint ezer darabot írt: dalt, vonósnégyest, szimfóniát, operát, misét és különböző zongoraműveket. Úgy, hogy minderre alig volt ideje, 31 év jutott neki csupán (még Mozart is többet élt nála). Zenéjében is megjelenő kettős természete, ellentmondásos személyisége, határtalan jókedve és mérhetetlen bánata az, ami kíváncsivá tesz sokakat. "
