A talányos műfajelnevezések utánozhatatlan mestere, Richard Strauss zenés társalgási darabnak, máshol pedig színházi fúgának nevezte utolsó operáját, a Capricciót. A mű nyitánya sem szokványos, a rokokó korszak eleganciáját, báját idéző, vonós kamaramuzsika, hat szólamra. Hasonlóan játszik a régebbi korok stílusjegyeivel az ifjú Mendelssohn is. A Capricciónál bő száz évvel korábbi kompozícióiban, mint amilyen a C-dúr vonósszimfónia és a tizennégy évesen írt, nagyszabású a-moll – vagy nulladik –zongoraversenyben a koraklasszika gyakran extravagáns, kísérletező hangja köszön vissza. A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English.
