Az eredeti Szophoklész-drámát Bornemisza Péter nyomán Háy János írta újra, azaz a Szophoklész-féle Elektra-történetet kapjuk Bornemisza nyelvújítás előtti nyelvezetét megidézve, de érthetően. A szöveg új, a történet régi:
Ám a húszéves évforduló tragikus fordulatokat rejt: Oresztész tanítójával, mesterével hazaindul, hogy sorsa rá mért feladatát bevégezze, s bosszút álljon apja haláláért.
A görög történet Háy János új drámájában is ugyanoda fut: bosszúra bosszú következik, vért vér követ, egyik igazságot váltja a másik igazság – és ennek talán soha nincs vége…

As it is a latent Kodály season, it seems only fitting that the concert at the OPERA honouring the events of 1956 should feature works by the composer. In that same year, the short-lived Revolutionary Council of Hungarian Intellectuals elected him as its president. Throughout his entire oeuvre, Kodály consistently reinforced Hungarian national identity. The programme gains both colour and a ceremonial character from the hymn-like and dance-infused compositions of his middle and later years.
