Lord Archibald Cavendish szívesen látná két utolsó rokona, Ronald és Jane egybekelését, hogy a családi vagyon szétforgácsolódás nélkül szálljon jogos örököseire. A lord szeretné összeboronálni őket, ezért saját halálhírét kelti, s végrendeletében kiköti, hogy az örökösök kötelesek egy hónapig a kastélyban tartózkodni, közösen étkezni, egymástól csókkal elbúcsúzni. A fiatalok, akik már utazásuk során összekülönböztek, a legkülönbözőbb terveket eszelik ki, hogy a végrendelet megszegésére, s ezáltal az örökség elvesztésére kényszerítsék a másikat. Mikor kiderül, hogy lord Cavendish él, s a végrendelet már nem áll közéjük, kibékülnek, és örökség nélkül is hajlandók teljesíteni az öreg lord kívánságát.

The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
