Jánost, a festőművészt és Jolánt egy tiszta szerelmi kapcsolat fűzte valamikor egymáshoz. Régen találkoztak, Jolán időközben férjhez ment. Az élet most úgy hozza, hogy a nőnek modellként kell a festő elé állnia, és mindkettőjüknek újra meg kell küzdeniük az érzelmeikkel.
A szenvedélyes párbeszédükkel újrakezdődő történetnek azonban van egy fültanúja. Egy ismeretlen férfi, aki korábban egy monte-carlói kaszinóban némi pénzzel kisegítette Jánost, és megígérte, hogy egyszer majd meglátogatja Budapesten. Nem tudni, miért éppen most, ebben a kényes, intim helyzetben lépett színre, de azt sem, hogy valójában ki ő és mit akar. S legyen bármilyen természetes is a viselkedése, azért az mégis ijesztő és démoni, hogy ő viszont mindent tud az előtte álló emberekről. Az el nem múló szerelem innentől nem maradhat titokban.
A Faust-témát „pestiesen” átdolgozó második darabjával a fiatal hírlapíró Molnár Ferenc 1907-ben elindult a világhír felé.

This ballet's plot is inspired by The Corsair, a famous verse written in 1814 by Lord Byron, who towered over an entire generation of English Romantic poets.
