The dialogue in verse by Pope John Paul II – namesake of the square upon which the Erkel Theatre is situated – examines the holiness of love and marriage through the stories of three different young couples. This co-production by the Opera and the Vörösmarty Theatre will feature stage actors performing the work accompanied by the musical works of a friend and countryman of the Polish pontiff and poet: contemporary composer Krzysztof Penderecki, whose musical world is always a remarkable one. Staging the production will be one of the Opera’s regular directors: following on the heels of Werther and Les Huguenots, János Szikora will now tackle this special work imbued with music.
