"Minden háborúnak ezer arca van. Ez az enyém, ahogy én élem meg. Egy fiatal nő, én magam, tizenkilenc-húsz évesen pár hónapos asszonyként hogyan kerültem az erdélyi kisebbségi sorból, az anyaországhoz visszakapcsolt Erdélyből a csákvári Esterházy-kastélyba. Egy asszony élete a fronton. Éhezés, tetvek, lövészárokásás, krumplihámozás, hideg, mocsok. Ez az élet nem csak az enyém volt. Férjem fehér hajú édesanyját ugyanúgy elhurcolták és megerőszakolták, mint a serdülő lányokat. Az orosz katonák megtámadtak, elvertek, megvédtek, csizmával a kezemre léptek, megetettek. Milyenek voltak ők, és milyenek voltunk mi? Miért erőszakolták meg a nőket, hogy esetleg az életükkel fizessenek érte? Nem csak a bombák és a lövedékek pusztítottak, nem csak magyarokat és németeket végeztek ki. Miért harcoltak ők? És mi?" - Polcz Alaine
