Lehetséges több mint ötven gombamérgezésben elhunyt apácáról és az afrikai lepratelepen átélt évekből fergeteges vígjátékot írni? Bizarr ötlet, de Dan Gogginnak sikerült. A gombamérgezést túlélt öt apáca mindent megtett, hogy összegyűjtse a pénzt 52 társuk illő temetésére: céget alapítottak, vallásos témájú képeslapokat árultak, sőt, saját holmijukat is pénzzé tették, de az így befolyt összeg is csak 48 apáca temetésére elég. Így az öt túlélő úgy dönt, hogy jótékonysági koncertet rendez. A Grease című musicalből adnak elő részleteket, és a Mount-Saint-Helen’s School színpadán elkezdődik az "apácashow".
A vidám dalokból és szellemesen megírt jelenetekből álló gálaest alatt lassan-lassan megismerjük a szereplőket, és kiderül, hogy a nővéreknek csak a ruhájuk egyforma. Mind-mind külön személyiség, más múlttal, álmokkal és vágyakkal.
