Poetry Recitals at Müpa Budapest has been met with great acclaim by audiences ever since the series began. The first show took place on 1 December 2017 with an Endre Ady evening, which has been followed by 17 largely sold-out performances. With the heightened interest in Ady and this year marking the 100th anniversary of his death, that first successful and memorable programme has now been completely renewed with a revised and expanded selection from István Kemény, under the direction of Pál Mácsai.
On this evening, leading actors from the Örkény Theatre will, of course, perform numerous poems from Ady's main works. However, this exciting compilation for the pre-eminent figure of contemporary Hungarian poetry will also take a look at some hidden treasures from his enormous body of work, as well as examining numerous prose writings, criticisms and documents from the period. In this way, Endre Ady's immeasurably rich work will be presented in the context of the era, with a meaningful, high-quality performance that is certain to live long in the memory. To complete the experience, Mihály Víg will also perform some of Ady's poems set to music with the assistance of the legendary Balaton group.
The production's cooperating partner is the Örkény Theatre.
