Gyászol a Schroffenstein család. A rossitzi ágon épp most temették el a legkisebb gyereket. Warwandban a pár hónapja meghalt kisfiút siratják. Mindkét oldal a másikat vádolja gyilkossággal. Míg az apák bosszúhadjáratba kezdenek, az életben maradt gyerekeik egymásba szeretnek.
