Csehov tizenhét évesen kezdett a Platonov megírásába. A szokatlanul szövevényes darabban, embrionális állapotban, felismerhető néhány későbbi csehovi mű. A terjedelmes anyagból minden előadásnak létre kell hoznia a maga Platonovját.
