A Lear az egymást váltó – formálisan különböző, de lényegében azonos – politikai rendszerek drámája. Egy olyan társadalomról ad kegyetlen képet, ahol a hatalom mindig erőszakos, az egyén mindig alávetett, a különböző elvek és érdekek pedig mindig többet érnek az emberi életnél. Bond állítja: a könyörület hiányzik belőlünk, a jelenkor összeegyeztethetetlen az isten-eszménnyel, a Shakespeare-korabeli reneszánsz humanitás és emberi gazdagság pedig eltűnt a modern világból.
Az Apertúra előadása arra az ellentmondásos kérdésre keresi a választ, hogy az általunk épített és minket körülvevő védőfalak valóban képesek-e szabaddá tenni bennünket.

This ballet's plot is inspired by The Corsair, a famous verse written in 1814 by Lord Byron, who towered over an entire generation of English Romantic poets.
