Mélyzölden burjánzik a dzsungel. Hosszú liánokon majmok csüngnek, álmukban kígyó öleli őket...
Tigris üvöltése töri meg a csendet.
Puha talpain éjfekete párduc suhan, zöld szemében a hold fénye villan, cikáz...
Farkasok vonyítják felhők vonulását, a vén medve csendre inti őket. Ölében egy apró szerzet: az Emberkölyök.
Testvérei a farkasok, mestere a fenséges párduc és a rozzant medve, ellensége a vérszomjas tigris: Sir Kán.
Maugli.
Az ember fia, aki visszatér az emberek közé, vagy a vadont választja a farkasokkal…?

As it is a latent Kodály season, it seems only fitting that the concert at the OPERA honouring the events of 1956 should feature works by the composer. In that same year, the short-lived Revolutionary Council of Hungarian Intellectuals elected him as its president. Throughout his entire oeuvre, Kodály consistently reinforced Hungarian national identity. The programme gains both colour and a ceremonial character from the hymn-like and dance-infused compositions of his middle and later years.
