Zenei munkatárs: Kéménczy Antal
„Úgy tíz- tizenöt évvel ezelőtt, amikor a Gyévuska című közös operánkon dolgoztunk Darvas Benedekkel, Pucciniről beszélgetve én a Pillangókisasszonyt dicsértem neki, mire Bence azt mondta, mestere, Petrovics Emil szerint van egy jobb is: A köpeny, mely nemcsak Puccini munkásságának legjobbja, hanem az egész operairodalom csúcspontja is. Aztán amikor meghallgattam, rögtön elvarázsolt a gyönyörű nyitány, mely egyszerre jeleníti meg a zenedráma színhelyét: a hol lágyan hömpölygő, hol félelmetesen örvénylő folyót, és vetíti előre a folyó partján élő emberek sodródását a tragikus vég felé. A továbbiakban is magával ragadott a zene tömény drámaisága és a szereplők lélekábrázolásának zenei finomsága, részletessége: a legapróbb rezdülésektől az érzelmi detonációkig.
Aztán mostanság – amikor újrahallgattam az operát – eszembe jutott, hogy milyen szépen rá lehetne illeszteni a zenére egy, a jelenkori Magyarországon játszódó, bizarr szerelmi háromszög történetét.
Szóval ez lesz. Veszem a bátorságot és átírom Puccini librettóját mai történetté. Zenei munkatársam ezúttal Kéménczy Antal, a nagyszerű zongoraművész lesz.”
