A harminckilenc lépcső John Buchan 1915-ös regénye, és Alfred Hitchcock 1935-ös filmjének adaptációja. Patrick Barlow 2005-ös színpadi változata óriási sikert aratott Londonban, azóta az egész világot bejárta.
A darab érdekessége, hogy az eredeti történetet négy szereplőre szűkíti. Csak a Hannay-t alakító férfiszínész játszik egy szerepet, a színésznő három, egymástól teljesen eltérő figurát jelenít meg. A többi huszonhat szerepet másik két színész alakítja. Ettől az eredeti kémtörténet izgalma bűnügyi komédiába fordul.
