Mi lenne, ha nem mennék be? Nem akarok bemenni, rettenetesen álmos vagyok. Nem tudom, egyfolytában ásítozok. Képtelen vagyok. Istenem, add, hogy hirtelen tapsrend legyen, felvegyem a gázsit, és hazamenjek! Nem tudom a szövegem, nem emlékszem a mozdulataimra, nincs hangom. Krákognom kell, köhögnöm kell, de nem szabad. Mi lenne, ha itt maradnék? Miért jöttek el ma a nézők? Meg tudja ezt nekem valaki magyarázni? Miért járnak az emberek még mindig színházba? Ha tudnák, hogy milyenek vagyunk a színfalak mögött, biztos nem jönnének többé. Sajnálnának. Moziba járnának inkább.

The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
