Tom, a kissé ügyefogyott ifjú férj, és a családban a nadrágot hordó felesége, Linda várják az örökbefogadási ügynökség képviselőjét, akinek döntésén múlik, lehet-e gyerekük. Tom két vagány öccse úgy dönt, segítenek helyre tenni Tom életét, de nem sikerül túl törvényesen. Megjelenik a rend éber őre, néhány illegális bevándorló, és ezzel meg is indul a világ legismertebb vígjátékszerzőitől elvárhatóan vidám bonyodalmak sokasága.
