A bohózat főhőse Eric, aki egy házban lakik feleségével, Lindával és albérlőjükkel, Normannal. Eric már két éve van állás nélkül, de ezt nem merte otthon bevallani, inkább társadalombiztosítási csalásokból tartja el magát. Egyre újabb és újabb – nem létező – bérlőket jelent be, akik valamennyien halmozottan hátrányos helyzetűek, így számtalan jogcímen érkezik kisebb-nagyobb összegű támogatás a férfi bankszámlájára. Ez remekül megy mindaddig, amíg megérkezik a házba egy társadalombiztosítási ellenőr, és innentől kezdve elindul a hazugságok végeláthatatlan sorozata.
