This spectacular show on the life and art of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo takes you on a journey to an exotic dream world, based on the rich expressivity of music, moving pictures and the art of dance. Like a special guided exhibition, the dance-pictures display the beauty and challenges of the female path of life, love stories full of passion, images of an impressive culture, a carnival feeling and a few definitive moments of Frida’s life. What we present is not the story of Kahlo’s life but an independent visual theatre vision inspired by her art and career about a dramatic but also colourful and lively world.
Born 115 years ago, FridaKahlo had Hungarian ancestors on her father’s side, but she is mostly known for her Mexican roots. A multi-faceted cult has taken shape around her, with people connected and attracted to her in many ways: to an ideal, an icon with an unparalleled life positivity, despite the fact that her life was full of tragedies and turbulent love affairs. Many people regard her as a muse, as her unique and unparalleled character is a source of inspiration, from the empowerment of women to art to courage to progressive ideas to amazing vitality.
Frida is a well-known andpopular artist in Hungary as well, and this show offers an opportunity to add new perspectives to help understand her life and art. This large-scale production provides for an immersion in the visuals and atmosphere of her art and her homeland Mexico, so full of surprises. Our aim is to tap into the spiritual heritage of this great artist with respect, to give modern shapes to the various surges of passionate, extreme emotions, highlighting the most definitive moments of her life and preserving the magical force of her sometimes so shocking paintings.

Our offer
A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
