This project presents a unique, site-specific and interdisciplinary interpretation of Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, unfolding within the iconic spaces of the Eiffel Art Studios in Budapest – from the locomotive hall to the sports arena and backstage corridors. The production takes the form of a promenade performance, in which the audience moves through different locations as the story progresses, from the overture to the climactic confrontation between Titania and Oberon.
At the heart of the production is collaborative artistic creation: students from four major institutions – the University of Theatre and Film Arts, the Liszt Academy of Music, the University of Fine Arts, and the Centre for Circus Arts – work together with the Hungarian State Opera’s Children’s Chorus. The children portray the fairies and serve as liminal guides – like passengers arriving on a magical platform nine-and-three-quarters – leading the audience through this layered dreamworld.
