Three Nights of One Love

Two young lovers ignore the war and want to live only for each other, but that age is indifferent to man, poetry and beauty, and destroys them. Miklós Hubay, István Vas and György Ránki were able to speak with elegant lightness, compassion and humor about a "barbaric" age, with all its ills, and this is the greatest step towards healing.
"I have particularly fond memories of performances given by young people, for example at college exams. Because the criterion for this play is not that the characters know the period, but that they are young. This is the last word in the text: youth. If youth is given, the performance is good." A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
