“Harmincvalahány éve, A padlás bemutatásának idején, éppen a Vígszínházban és környékén sertepertéltem. Talán másodállású dramaturg voltam? Meg nem mondom! Csak arra emlékezem, hogy ott voltam „A padláson”, mindig bent voltam a darab próbáján, pedig álmomban sem hittem volna el, ha valaki azt mondja, hogy valaha többször is rendezni fogom. Most a Veres 1 Színházban is megelevenednek a csodák, a varázslatok és a fantasztikus mese szellemekről és földi halandókról. Az is a csodadolgokhoz tartozik, hogy remek színészek játsszák a darabot. A siker titka elsősorban a mű és játszói, valamint természetesen a velünk együtt „játszó” közönség!
Nem tudom, hogy ma, amikorra már A padlás klasszikussá lett, lehet-e többet mondani róla, vagy szabad-e többet idézni a darabból, mint annak mára szállóigévé lett sorát: »mert kell egy hely!« (Böhm György – rendező)

Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
