Ki ne szeretné tudni, mi jár igazából a főnöke, szerelme, riválisa fejében? "A toll" a színház csillogó, néha álságos világába röpíti a nézőit. Váltogatva mutat meg igazat és valótlant, kiforgat színházi helyzetet és embert, még ki sem kacagtuk magunkat emblematikus figuráin, máris szédületes, bohózati szituációban találjuk magunkat.
